Define Quality
Well, that’s was one of the question I was asked in an interview today, and I just happened to define the word in my own way. FYI many people define quality in their own ways, Taguchi (In terms of loss function), IshiKawa, Juran, etc. All of them have their own version of the definition. And today when an interviewer asked me to define Quality, I didn’t know what words to use for. Of course I have done a project on Six Sigma, but that does not mean I remember all those numerous definitions, defined by Quality philosophers, in their very own way.
So here’s what I answered, of course I don’t remember the exact words, but a version of it…
Quality is the level of Customer Satisfaction. It’s the level to which the customer’s needs can be/is/are satisfied by the service provider (the company). Each customer has his own needs and requirements, and are dynamic (read as opposite of static) in, so keeping the customer satisfied with the company’s services along with continual improvement in the same, is my broader view of Quality.
So that a bit of my philosophy, added to the basic funda of Six Sigma. I would say it is a result of Six Sigma thoughts, and a bit of practicality infused into each other. Any ways, If you have any ways of improving the definition please lemme know…

Janine,
Standards are simply the ways you would define the accuracy levels.
I have tried to descibe Quality in a broader sense. You see someone said that Quality is a way of life. Its the way in which you do your activities. May it be anything.
Quality Control does demand statistical proofs and numerical justification, but these are just means to get to the point that I said before.
Quality is an abstract concept of a standard. It is a standard which must be attached to an object; as it is something that comes as a result of a physical object. For example the quality of a manifold, plumbed using two different standards, will each result in a different quality. The better quality manifold will be the one which is plumbed for a specific purpose, using hydraulic principles.
Your comments are floating abstractions; if they originated from six sigma, the philosophy is dubious and Platonic, which means unrelated to the real world.
