Gokak Falls in the monsoons
I happened to go to Gokak Falls some days back, and here are some pictures of the waterfalls.
The falls can be accessed from Gokak (8 Kms) which is a two hour journey from Belgaum. Check out the video also.
Here’s a small video clip of the Falls. Hear the gushing sound of the waterfall.
There’s a century old Gokak Mill over the just close by the falls, built in 1887 in British Raj, which is functional to this date. Check out the pics below.
There’s also a Hanging Bridge that rund across the fall, which was also built in 1887, runs strong, but the visitors are advised not to take it. The Bridge is reserved for Mill employees only, but normal visitors out there don’t care for the notice and take a trip on the bridge on their own risk.
There’s also a small temple of Lord Shiva on the banks of the falls.
So anyone planning a holiday ??

Hi
I used to work for FFC Mumbai, of which the mill was a subsidiary. I spent around 6-9 months in 84/85 and those were quite special for me.
The falls, the steps, the bridge..quite unique.

Hello Steve,
Gokak always was a special place, wasn’t it? I still remember playing on the dry river bed, cycling to the train station, going down to the turbines and fishing in the river.
Hello Peter too. How are you?
Thank you Maltesh for these great pics.
Judy
Steve Horridge,
I was just looking through this website and caught your name. Astonishment! I remember you and you family. My dad was general manager after yours.
(For the benefit of others), the GM’s house was on the mill side of the river, and you could see the falls from the garden. Always a spectacular sight.
Thanks Steve
Hi Maltesh,
My father was General Manager of the Mills in the 50,s and 60,s. I’ll never forget my childhood in such a blessed place. Your pictures brought it all back to life. In those days the bridge was crowded at shift times and never felt very safe even then. good to see its still hanging in there. You could also descend to the power station via steps and tunnels down the cliff face. That was awesome in the monsoon.
Regards
hi…..great to see this pictures…
I visited the Belgaum- Gokak and falls in 2007 with a Rotary group. I loved it! Even though it was January and the falls were thin it was great to see the rocks at the bottom and people doing their laundry and spreading it out to dry on them. I love India and will return!
