Book Review: Anything for you Ma’am – an IITian’s love story, by Tushar Raheja
Just finished reading “Anything for you Ma’am”, a book by Tushar Raheja a IIT grad, who wrote this book in just 3 months (Fast isn’t it ?). To say it in short it’s a typical bollywood flick, perfect script for a 3 hour popcorn movie.
The author follows a “this month that year” form of narrating the story, which does confuse initially, but you get along with it as you proceed. Tushar is quite good in describing the details of the situation but sometimes you feel like he’s just beating around the bush.
The best part of the story was the description of a candle light dinner and the beer (or vodka whatever may be) splashing incident on profs, rest all seemed very filmy. Typical scenes like you see in movies, like in laws causing problems, lies, troubles, etc all form the climax. The speed of the book is quite good, only towards the ends that you feel that it has been let loose. Actually I thought this book could have rather been named “Life full of coincidences” thats because of the no of co incidences in the tale, particularly the way in which Tejas meets Shreya for the first time at the movie hall.
Now you would be wondering what’s so IITian in this story? Well, apart from the fact the author is an IITian, and our hero in the book ‘Tejas’ is also an IITian, nothing else is. I mean, remove IIT and put any engineering college’s name and the plot would still remain the same.
The book is about an IIT Delhi student, Tejas in his final year of Industrial Engineering who is in love with his sister’s friend Shreya. Their first meet is a conclave of coincidences at a movie hall, a well thought out dream, the two who then agree to keep in touch through mails. The girl is in Chennai and the guy in Delhi. If you seen Hrithik starer “Mujhse Dosti Karogi” then you feel déjà vu on this. But, there’s no second female in this plot, thankfully !! They mail, then talk eventually fall for each other. Tejas now has to meet Shreya, because her parents have learnt about the relationship. On how he does it… you’ve got to read the book for that.
The book however, is quite a good read finished it in some 4-5 days. Although you don’t feel anything out of movies in the book, you do not feel like putting it down. At 100 bucks it is quite a paisa vasool.

I have just done with dis GREAT book…n it is something inexplicable..after reading it i just can’t refrain myself to leave a reply..such a lovely book that right now i’m longing to fall in love…and to explore my extremes that how much i would love him..n would go to cross each n every hurdles just to meet HIM..atlast last but not the lest my desire is to have a glance of that GODDESS who made tushar went crazzy for her….good work tushar though i’m no one to appreciate..but at last wishing u loads of love n luck to both of u….it is a cheer for true lovers…….tejas n shreya(always for me)
Anything for you ma’am is awesome book ……inspite of having my boards i kept on reading the book till i finished it…its just great…i wish i also have a guy who love me as tushar loves her (shewta)…
we book was completed i was not hapy because i wanna know more about tushar had his journey for his love……so if you can tell what happen in his love life so please tell……………
i just finished it yesterday…….i had a crush when i saw him on backside of cover page nd actually fallen in love after reading the novel……its awesome specially the poetry nd songs he had for every incident..candle light dinner, respect that he had for girls make him a darling…his verdict with pappi sir nd whole plots he made to meet his love are actually mindblowing.it was when i reached the last page ,i learnt that novel was over…their tryst at beach is heartening….mst read novel it is..
Wasn’t aware earlier that the book has been complited in 3 months by Tushar.
Few incidences are really composed in damn funny way. Such as scene with Tejas’s in law “why take a chance” .
Tushar tried to use as difficult word as he could and utilised MS Word very well i guess.
No less than “the 3 mistakes of my life” .Anyhows I m happy i completed it and enjoyed as well.
Anything for you ma’am is a good piece of readable stuff…i realty love it…
i bought the book only after seeing the IIT name on the front page, thats the trick tushar used, the book is no way near an average book, i didn’t like it at all, i read 70-80 pages and couldn’t continue, Tushar’s style is good but story is same as 100’s of bollywood movies, anyways i just regret that he used the name of IITs, that shouldn’t br there
Hi Kritika,
OK lets give a five that he’s done a good job by writing in his fourth year, but tell me how different is that from a hindi movie plot and whether he knows other colleges or not, its just the name that makes the point, and nothing else is so IITian in the book.
In 5PS, Chetan Bhagat had written about some IIT culture, etc in the book which ain’t present here.
itz really unfair 2 compare tushar wid chetan…..chetan ws nearly 30 yrs old wen he rote d buk(pretty old…)tushar ws just in 4th yr….n hez done a gud job….n puhllleeezzz fr heeaves sake…d guy ws frm iit…so hw wud he kno d details f oder cols?????i found his buk intrestin n swt….gud strt by him…waitin fr his nxt buk eagerly..:)…
when i read the novel i thought it was only theek-thak but still it was ok at times it became boring and i felt like stopping but then all over it was a good attempt
